The SAMPE Boston Chapter is pleased to announce that it has scheduled its next meeting & event of the 2025 season. The meeting will be held at The Establishment Restaurant, 75 Princeton St, Chelmsford, MA 01863 on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025.
The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM with a brief introduction from Michael Novak, Chair of SAMPE’s Boston Chapter highlighting the chapter’s current plans for meeting & events for the remainder of 2025 and early 2026, as well as solicit input on future meetings, tours, and events.
A presentation from Michael Favaloro, President of CompositeTechs LLC, Amesbury, MA, will begin at 7:00 PM. The presentation is titled, “Carbon Fiber and Composites Use in the Hydrogen Economy”. This presentation is based on a report prepared jointly by CompositeTechs and CompositesWorld, Cincinnati, OH.
The report is the culmination of more than two years of research and writing to assess the challenges and opportunities posed by the emerging hydrogen industry — particularly for the myriad composite-overwrapped pressure vessels that will be deployed for storage and transport of gaseous and liquid hydrogen. This report is designed to shed light on status quo and emerging materials and processes for fabrication of dependable and affordable hydrogen storage pressure vessels. The presentation will provide a detailed overview of both the technical and business aspects of the report.
The hydrogen storage industry is one that depends heavily on carbon fiber composites for fabrication of high-performance pressure vessels that must meet demanding service requirements, including temperature, pressure, impact resistance, and time. These requirements, combined with significant upside demand projections, could put significant pressure on the carbon fiber composite supply chain in general and on carbon fiber manufacturers in particular to provide the materials and manufacturing capacity that will be required.
A buffet dinner will be provided starting at 6:15 PM. The cost for the dinner is $20.00. Students will eat for free. Payment can be charged in advance or paid with cash at the door. Please RSVP to Michael Buck at mbuck111@outlook.com by Friday, September 26th regarding your attendance, and whether you’re a student (no-charge) or professional.
