"Free-Standing Fabrication
of Energy Storing Structural Sheets Using Print Forming Technology"
The proprietary
PowerWrapper™ technology of the Paper Battery Company consists of
massively parallel, arrayed cells in thin stackable sheets (~100-300
microns each) that can store and deliver high power bursts as high
amperage pulses at high voltage. Alpha prototypes of single and
multi-layer devices have recently been fabricated using multiple print
forming technologies. The objective of this brief presentation is to
provide an overview of the PowerWrapper™ technology and provide a build
sequence through highlighting the challenges to making free-standing
structural sheeting materials that store energy. A promising material
dubbed E-Tape, a sort of hybrid between duct tape and flexible
supercapacitors, will also be discussed as an early prototyping tool for
engineers. More specifically, topics such as print formed porous
separators, hairy particle based building blocks, and low density
current collectors will be covered in the discussion.
