Abstract: Engineering demands on aircraft are tougher than ever. The use of fiber reinforced composites to replace metals is now commonplace, with thermoplastic composites use growing at the fastest pace. Modern thermoplastic matrix systems offer a variety of process alternatives to conventional thermo-set systems that can simplify fabrication, reduce environmental load and improve performance in various ways. In this session we will look specifically at the use of injection and compression molding of OXPEKK short and long fiber molding compounds as a highly enabling alternative to hand laid / wound (semi) continuous fiber materials (and metals), especially for demanding, detailed smaller size higher count components.
